Welcome to Berczy
Sandwiched between the communities of Angus Glen to the west and Wismer Commons to the east, Berczy Village is a mix of all of my favourite things: a beautiful variety of homes, plenty of green space, a friendly neighbourhood and convenient access to amenities.
Sitting just north of the trendy neighbourhood of Unionville, Berczy is this historic place that has transformed into a vibrant community.
The neighbourhood, which has been growing since development began in the mid 1990s, is an eclectic mix of homes, ranging from a variety of gorgeous townhomes to semi-detached and detached homes. All of this is peppered with historic, country homes from the village's previous life as farmland.
But it’s the ever-present green space that I find really draws people to Berczy Village, with tree groves in all directions and plenty of quiet benches along the many leisurely winding pathways.
The pedestrian-friendly, New Urbanism neighbourhood has been designed so that parks are within a five-minute walk from all residences. These parks include the central Berczy Park, Frederick Bagg Park, Nördlingen Park and Williamstown Green. All with their own character and meeting any and all needs for singles, couples and families in the neighbourhood, these green spaces offer scenic bridges, playgrounds, meandering footpaths, ponds and sporting fields.
According to the Markham Home Buyers’ Guide, this prestigious address between historic Main Street and the renowned Angus Glen Golf Club also boasts great schools and religious institutions all within a short walk to accommodate the more than 15,000 people who call the community home. With plenty of parking and intriguing catwalks, this smart growth community has developed with an awareness of open space, the environment and wooded areas with streets, parks and residences designed around existing natural features.
The 1,000-acre village is named after the founder of Markham, William Berczy, a Canadian colonizer, painter and architect who moved to Markham in the late 18th century to help develop the region. Take a look at some of the homes available for sale in Berczy Village.
